UN Security Council Votes On Trump's Gaza Peace Plan

The UNSC is voting today on the 20-point peace plan which would create an international security force and a transitional government. A Board of Peace will last two years and work to disarm Hamas and other militants, and then control the redevelopment of Gaza. Trump would "oversee" the board (a bad idea!). The proposal does suggest the formation of a separate Palestinian state (a great idea that's necessary for lasting peace), but Israel is vociferously opposed to that. China or Russia could veto the entire plan, and Russia has created their own peace plan for the region.

The ceasefire hasn't really held, as violence on both sides has broken out every day since the agreement was signed. Hamas has never agreed to disarm, and there are over 100 armed Hamas fighters holed up beyond Israeli lines in Rafah. They have barricaded themselves in underground tunnels, and are refusing to surrender. They are asking for a safe passage to return, but Israel refuses. Hamas also rejects the peace plan because they say it is an "attempt to subject the Gaza Strip to international authority." I'm not sure how Trump expects phase two of his plan to happen without an agreement from Hamas to disarm.

The US is talking about building a huge military base "near" Gaza, so I guess Trump plans on putting American boots on the ground there, but they say the troops would only have a "supportive" role. Israel keeps objecting to certain countries participating in an international security force, and not many countries are rushing to volunteer.

Meanwhile in Israel, crazy ass extreme right-wing National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is calling for all Palestinian Authority leaders to be executed if a Palestinian state is declared. Crime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing his own crisis as he keeps trying to avoid his corruption trial. Trump has asked their President to pardon him. There are large protests (over 100,000 people) in their streets because the investigation into the October 7th terror attacks is being conducted by his own government instead of creating a state commission to investigate. Netanyahu allegedly allowed the attack to happen so he'd have a pretext for declaring war and carrying out the Gaza genocide.

In the Gaza strip, winter is coming and their tents just got flooded by heavy rains. The conditions are horrific. Israel won't allow American doctors into Gaza to treat people, and they're keeping out the critical supplies they need to rebuild shelters before the harsh winter arrives. There's mostly nothing left but rubble, and those who have homes that survived the war are being violently attacked by Israeli "settlers" who are claiming their land. They also aren't allowing them to harvest their olives. The IDF has been defending them. Israel's "yellow line" that takes over half of Gaza needs to disappear, and all of those "settlers" need to be pushed back into Israel.

Trump's plan to rebuild Gaza is in shambles because of the price tag and the horrible job it entails. Countries haven't donated enough money just for Gaza's basic needs, much less given the resources to rebuild the region. From the genocide, there are around 14,000 corpses still buried in the rubble, so rebuilding is quite an unpleasant task. It's also going to very costly, and I think the USA and Israel should have to pay for all of it!

Here's an article that gives some facts and figures on the daunting task of rebuilding the Gaza strip:
