SCOTUS Allows Racial Gerrymandering In Texas

Using the map, Texas could add up to 5 more seats in the House of Representatives. Justice Kagan wrote the dissent. The unsigned order says that Texas is “likely to succeed on the merits of its claim,” and that the lower court “failed to honor the presumption of legislative good faith” when assessing the state legislature’s motives. The lower court ruled that the map was racially gerrymandered. It will be interesting to see if SCOTUS allows the California map. The three liberals voted no, so it looks like the vote was likely 6-3. Here's the 20-page court's opinion (the dissent starts on page 4).
