My first boyfriend committed suicide when we were teenagers, so I was devastated by her suicide, as well as all of the other suicides and the senseless violence and cruelty frequently displayed against our LGBTQIA+ youth.

In her suicide note, she detailed the problems that led up to her death. My series Leelah! is not about her or her life, but is dedicated to her in hopes of helping fulfill her last wish: "Fix society!" for transgender kids. I'm cisgender, so once my vision for the series is fully articulated I'll be asking transgender experts for help.

I will also be making sure any proceeds made from the series will go to organizations that serve the transgender community. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
