DOJ is in the process of revising the federal standards related to the 2003 Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) in order to align with Trump's executive order on "gender ideology extremism" that only recognizes two sexes: male and female. A 2015 survey from criminal justice group Black and Pink found LGBTQIA+ prisoners were over six times as likely to be sexually assaulted as the general prison population. They will also be housing transgender people in the wrong prisons based on their sex at birth.
